Custom Aerospace Engineering
Enkon, Herkules’ leading lift brand was selected by United Space Alliance (USA) to support NASA’s Ares I-X Constellation program. To facilitate the mission, the team designed and manufactured three highly specialized, portable pneumatic lift systems. The systems enabled aerospace engineers at the Kennedy Space Center in Cape Canaveral, Florida, to accurately and securely load 2,400-pound parachutes into the booster rockets. These massive parachutes are deployed 123 seconds after lift-off during first-stage separation.
Stringent Safety & Design Specifications
The engineering team built the systems to meet strict NASA safety standards, incorporating a required three-times safety factor. Herkules successfully addressed unique safety challenges created by the combination of a small footprint and high vertical travel. Built-in fork pockets ensure the entire system can be easily transported directly to where it is needed on the floor.
